Grade 12 results are out. Where to check yours

University placement is out for the 2018 E.C. Grade 12 passers

The Ministry of Education has finished placing the students who passed the 2018 E.C. Grade 12 national exam and are entering government universities as regular undergraduates on cost sharing. Placement can be seen at student.ethernet.edu.et/view-placement, which asks for an admission number and a first name, or through the Telegram bot @moestudentbot. The Ministry says it placed students on their results and their own choices, on how many students each university can take, on spreading the intake across regions, zones, woredas and schools, on the balance between women and men, and on the needs of blind and deaf students. Seven in ten students were placed outside the region or zone they studied in. Everyone who scored 500 or more out of 600 went to their first choice. A student who disagrees with their placement has five days from the day it was announced to say so online, and the Ministry will not hear a complaint brought to its offices in person. Placement for the remedial programme is still to come. The announcement reached us through two Telegram education channels on Meskerem 6, 2019 E.C. (16 September 2026).

How to see where you were placed

  1. 1

    Open the placement page

Go to student.ethernet.edu.et/view-placement. It is the Ministry's student self-service portal, the same one the Grade 12 results were served from.

  2. 2

Enter your admission number and your first name

The page asks for those two things and nothing else. Your admission number is the one you sat the national exam under.

  3. 3

    Or use the Telegram bot

@moestudentbot answers with the same placement, which is worth trying when the website is slow. The channels warn that many students are opening the portal at once.

02

What the placement was based on

The Ministry lists five grounds for how a student ended up at one university rather than another. Two of them are about the student, and three are about the shape of the intake as a whole.

  • The result a student scored, and the universities and fields they chose
  • How many students each university is able to take
  • Spreading the intake across regions, zones, woredas and schools
  • The balance between women and men
  • The needs of blind students and of students who are deaf

Out of 600

The Ministry says it sent the seven in ten out of their home area deliberately, and that giving first choice to everyone above 500 was meant to recognise a high result. What it means for a family is worth reading plainly: most students are going somewhere other than the region they grew up in, and a first choice was only guaranteed to the students at the top.

03

If you think your placement is wrong

The complaint lane is online and nowhere else. The Ministry says plainly that it will not take a placement complaint from a student who travels to its offices, which matters for a family thinking about the cost of a trip to Addis Ababa.

  1. 1Open student.ethernet.edu.et/complaints.
  2. 2Attach the information and the evidence that supports what you are claiming. A complaint without them is the one most likely to go nowhere.
  3. 3Send it within five days of the placement being announced. The announcement was made on Meskerem 6, 2019 E.C. (16 September 2026), and nothing published says whether that day counts as the first of the five, so treat the window as shorter rather than longer.
04

Remedial students are still waiting

This placement covers the students who passed the Grade 12 exam directly. The Ministry says placement for the remedial programme will be published separately. The mark a remedial student needed to reach university is already out, and it is in the remedial cut-off for university.

05

What happens after you read your placement

The choice that produced this placement, and what it commits a student to, is in choosing a university and a field. Asking to move to another university once you are placed is not open to a first-year student: the Ministry closed that door before the placement ran, and the reasons are in first-year transfers are banned. When you know your university, its reporting and registration days are collected in the 2019 E.C. university registration dates.
